There are three primary areas of opportunity for service in the SOWER Ministry…volunteer workers, prayer partners, and faith contributors. The SOWER Ministry is a volunteer, non-profit ministry relying on faith contributions. All monetary contributions are used to defray costs associated with office-related labor, equipment and material, utilities, office overheads and mailings. The cornerstones of our ministry are faith and prayer. We publish the prayer requests and praise reports of our members and we encourage members to pray for each other as well as for projects and the well being of the ministry. SOWERS are expected to pray for and give financial support to the ministry as the Lord leads.
Work on projects is a primary focus of our ministry and members may volunteer to work from one project-month per year to twelve project-months per year. At the present time, we need members who are willing to work the non-winter months (April through October) in the Northern states. We have a number of members who leave their homes in the winter months and work projects in the southern states, but support for projects during the other months in the northern states is lacking. Through prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit, members decide which project(s) they are called to work and each project is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Each SOWER must complete and return a Skill Sheet and Consent for criminal background check, Release of Liability and Consent for Treatment when they join and annually in order to be considered an “active” SOWER and continue to receive the GRAM.
As of 1/1/06, all members are required to have a
criminal background check on file in the SOWER Ministry office in
order to work projects. All new member applications now
require background checks.
All SOWER Ministry members are also expected to abide by the SOWER Constitution, Bylaws, and Member Guidelines and we are to conduct ourselves as SERVANTS. SOWERS is a “helps” ministry and our focus is on providing assistance to our hosts. Service in the ministry should not be seen merely as an opportunity to “get away from home,” to “visit family and friends,” or to “spend winter months in the sunbelt.”
